The Havana BID received stakeholder approval in the general election in November 2007 and began operations in 2008. A lot happened in 2008, including the demolition of the old Buckingham Square Mall, great events, business owners working with the city on a new electronic sign code and businesses being recognized at the City of Aurora’s Business Recognition Awards. April 2008–The Havana BID board members invited city planners on a bus tour of the Havana District to talk about electronic signs.
February 2008: This is “Ham” the second guard who formerly lived at the entrance to the former Buckingham Square Mall. Guards Buck and Ham now reside at the Aurora History Museum.
Feb. 15, 2008–Aurora City Council Member Molly Markert did the honors of driving the excavator and taking the first bite out of the old Joslin’s store during the “Crash-Celebrate” Buckingham Square Demolition Celebration.
