$36,000 of Tools and Tool Cabinets Were Awarded to 2017 Graduates

May 29th, 2019

$36,000 worth of tools and tool Cabinets were awarded to the first graduates of the Pickens Tech and Havana Motor Mile Partnership.

Today was a big day on the Havana Motor Mile and marks the two year commitment anniversary for six Pickens Technical College students of the Havana Motor Mile Tool Incentive Program.

Two years ago we had eight students graduate from the Pickens Technical College @Auto Tech Program and each were awarded $6000 Snap-on Tools cabinets with tools. These tools were given to the students to use while they worked at a Havana Mootor Mile car dealership or shop. After they completed their two years to the #HavanaMotorMile they were awarded ownership of the $6000 tool cabinet and tools.

Two of the eight cabinets and tools were reassigned to other students over the years. However, 6 out of the 8 students from the 1st and original program completed their 2 year commitment in 2019.

Today Rolf Werner from Pickens Technical College Pickens Tech Auto, Gayle Jetchick, Founder of the Havana BID & Havana Motor Mile Workforce Tool Incentive Program, & Chance Horiuchi the Executive Director of the Havana BID – On Havana Street visited 5 of the 6 students to give them the keys to their tool cabinet and tools.

This was a big deal to these students. Tools are very expensive and shops/dealerships don’t provide tools for new hires to work in an auto shop. You must come prepared with your own tools. This program allows for new graduates to begin work right away with all the tools needed to succeed in their new career path after graduation.

We visited Abraham Gilis & Alexander Aroyo at Schomp Automotive Schomp Subaru, Edgar Martinez at Shortline Buick GMC, Ram Dhungel at Ed Bozarth Chevrolet Company, Inc. Aurora, & Edgar Torres at Tynan’s Volkswagen to award them all their official keys to their tool cabinet and tools.

The 6th student Daniel Salazar at @OurGarage will be awarded at a later time. Our Garage is currently closed until May 31st so we will visit in June to award Daniel his keys to his tool cabinet and tools.

CONGRATULATIONS Graduates of 2017!

It was also wonderful to see the student graduates from 2018 and 2019 that were also awarded tool cabinets working at the dealerships!

We will be back to award keys to the next round of students in the Havana Motor Mile Tool Incentive Workforce Program in 2020!
