Community Comes Together to Help Family

July 25th, 2017

Thank you Aurora Police, Shortline Subaru, The Used Tire Store, M&M Towing and Western Centers for helping The Tyler Family out in their time of need.  The Tyler Family was staying at Springhill Suites on Colfax while their 11 year old daughter was receiving chemotherapy for leukemia when their car was stolen from the parking lot at the hotel on July 14.  Aurora Police found the car Thursday night, July 20, but it was missing all four wheels and tires.

Police called On Havana Street executive director, Gayle Jetchick, asking for help and she went to work to locate used wheels and tires for the family’s vehicle. Within an hour, the used wheels were donated by Shortline and the tires by the Used Tire Store on Havana. The Used Tire Store mounted the tires on the wheels and provided locking lug nuts. Gayle and husband, John, drove the wheels and tires out to the Aurora Police Impound Lot on E. Colfax where the vehicle was being stored. The crooks made a real mess of the family’s vehicle. Once the wheels were on the car again, it was moved to M&M Towing and repair which is adjacent to the Impound Lot. The ignition had been punched and there was other damage, but M&M graciously worked on the vehicle to get it in good condition for the family.

Garrett Walls, a board member of On Havana Street who works for Western Centers (Havana Exchange/Bicycle Village center) asked what else the family needed. The mom called back saying that her daughter’s stroller was taken from the vehicle and her daughter is too weak from chemo to walk much and really needs a new stroller. Garrett and Western Centers purchased a $400 baby jogger stoller for the family. The vehicle and the stroller will be returned to the family this afternoon at 3 p.m. out at the Impound Lot. Thank you everyone for helping this family out during these tough times. Here is the link to the video appearing on Fox 31: http://kdvr.com/…/familys-car-stolen-as-daughter-battles-c…/
