How the Government Works and Why It Matters

How the Government Works and Why It Matters

A 101 training for Colorado’s Asian Pacific Islander Community. Co-Presenters: Amuda Mishra, MPH, and Meg Allen

Objectives:

1. Learn how the government works and why it matters to you as a community member
2. Understand the importance of civic engagement and your role as a community member
3. Learn about issues impacting Colorado’s Asian community
4. Consider ways to get involved in your local government, neighborhood, or community: How to start? What resources or support do you need? Who could you partner with or seek mentorship from?

The goal is for participants to leave the training with action steps and a better understanding of civic engagement. The long-term goal is to encourage and support more Asian Pacific Islanders to get involved in shaping policies and the issues affecting our local community.

This is a two-part training that will begin with a pre-evaluation to understand where people are at in their community involvement. The second training will be in March 2022 in which a post evaluation will be conducted to assess if there was movement in community involvement/action. We hope participants will take part in both the training.

Participants will receive a $30 gift card to DoorDash to enjoy dinner during the training time.
