Havana BID Board Positions

New Board Positions Available: The BID is managed by a 9-member Board of Directors, all of whom are voting members. At least two-thirds of the board seats shall consist of owners of real property or their representatives within the district. The board will also consist of both large and small property owners and will represent a diverse mix of property use types. At least one board member shall be an elector located in the following geographic segments of the district: North of Alameda Avenue, South of Alameda Avenue and North of Mississippi Avenue, South of Mississippi Avenue and North of Parker Road, & South of Parker Road.

There are 9 Board of Director positions.

The District runs north and south along Havana Street for 4.3 miles from 6th Avenue to Dartmouth in Aurora, Arapahoe County.

All four geographic segments along Havana are currently represented in the corridor along Havana Street and we are looking forward to having your business represented on the board.

The board appointment is a process and not guaranteed until appointments are voted on by the current board and City Council.

The business representatives that serve on the board can be in the following geographic areas of the district:

1)           North of Alameda Avenue (Kerstin Hitchcock, Gary’s Full-Service Auto Repair)

2)           South of Alameda Avenue and North of Mississippi Avenue (Donovan Welsh – Havana Auto Parts & Yulissa Williams – US BANK)

3)           South of Mississippi Avenue and North of Parker Road (Adriana Lara – Target Gardens on Havana, Matt Rauzi – Colorado’s Pro Gym, & *Jennifer Dunn – First Bank (open position, but *on board until NEW appointments are confirmed)

4)           South of Parker Road (Garrett Walls – E-5 Equities, Havana Exchange/Western Centers)

This appointment is a privilege because we only have 9 board of directors for 2100 businesses and 209 property stakeholders in the corridor.

 

Brief Overview of the Process of Accepting the Board Position:

1. Board Process – Board recommendation to City Council (must be a current Colorado Registered Voter)

2. City Council Board Appointment Process (Study Session & Regular Council Meeting)

3. Legal Process – sign official documents ex: acceptance of office, disclosure of potential conflicts of interest

Post Acceptance – Board time Commitment – 2—4 hours/month

1. Review Weekly emails with updates + monthly newsletter email + attendance to Board Meeting on 3rd Thursday at 10am by virtual phone call

2. Annual Stakeholder Lunch Meeting/Networking with District – 3rd Week of November – same time as Board Meeting 11-1pm

3. Attendance to various special events + Board committee meetings

 

As of September 2019, the Board established committees and board governance.

Board Committees Opportunities: The board created two committees for board engagement. The two committees are Budget & Events and Marketing. These committees typically meet from July to September due to the Op Plan and Budget for a couple of hours.

Each committee will have at least 3 Board Directors, and each Board Director shall be required to be a member of at least one committee.  The President and Vice President of the Board will work with the board, oversee, and organize the committees each board member commits to.

Example: The BID has monthly Board public meetings. Board members must attend or phone into board meetings at least 6 times a year according to the board governance.

Example:  In 2023 we have about 30 budgeted events/programs scheduled; therefore, the board must commit to at least 7-8 events in 2023 in compliance with the board governance.

Budgeted OHS Events expected to be hosted in 2025: 

  1. January 26, 2025, Sunday, 11-6 pm, Stampede – Lunar New Year Festival – Year of Snake
  2. January 2025 – African Chamber of Commerce Business Awards (OHS sponsored tickets)
  3. March 2025 – Small Business Month events, Hispanic Chamber Networking/Workshops
  4. Small Business Networking Events ex: Boba & Business – 60 stakeholders enjoy a boba, network, invite resources and programs to join us + Progressive Lunches – Speed Networking.
  5. April 2025 – Aurora Chamber Business Awards, Mile High Asian Food Week, AANHPI month events
  6. May 2025/August 2025 – Taste of OHS – Eat OHS event – tentative with Visit Aurora and Yelp Colorado
  7. June 2025 – Havana Street Pride Festival at The Stampede
  8. June-October 2025 – Last Saturdays – 6 Havana Street Night Markets 6-10pm at Leezakaya
  9. Quarterly Networking Events with community partners
  10. Quarterly Outreach/Crime Forums/Business Roundtables with community partners
  11. August 2025 – Global Fest, Sabor, African Leadership Group Gala
  12. Aug/Sept 2025 – Dotsero at the Stampede – August 26, 2025 7-9pm Stampede
  13. October 25, 2025 Trick or Treat at the Gardens on Havana + Costume Contests + Pet Parade 11-1pm
  14. October 2025 – Visit Aurora Annual Meeting + State of the City Annual Meeting (OHS sponsored tables)
  15. November 13 or 20, 2025 Annual Stakeholder Meeting at the Stampede 11-12:30pm 
  16. December 2025 – tentative Board Holiday Dinner – pending board availability
