Havana Motor Mile Auto Tech Tool
Incentive Program: Again in 2018, we
are working with the Auto Tech Program
at Pickens Technical College in Aurora on
this fantastic program. To address the
8 ongoing shortage of auto techs, this
program will use $10,000 from the
Havana Motor Mile budget so the Pickens
Auto Tech instructors can purchase four
customized auto tech tool packages and
cabinets from Snap-On Tools for this tool
incentive.
The Pickens Auto Tech instructors are
currently working with auto shop
managers in our Havana Motor Mile
dealerships and independent repair
shops to match four top auto tech
students from the 2018 Pickens class
with jobs in shops in the motor mile. The
first day on the job these four students
will receive the Snap-On Tool cabinet
w/automotive tools to use on the
job. (Note that auto techs are required to
have their own tools on the job, which is a
huge cost for the students.)
The Snap-On tool packages are valued at
$5,000 each, and if the student stays
employed at the shop for 2 years, he/she
gets to keep the tool package. If he/she
leaves employment before the 2 year
mark, the tool package goes back to
Pickens to use for another student who is
placed in a Havana Motor Mile
Shop. This program has been a big
success. Thank you Gary Sliger, Havana
BID board member and owner of Gary’s
Full Service Auto Repair, for your
contribution to the success of this
program.
