Havana Motor Mile Tool Incentive Workforce Program with Pickens Tech 2024

August 16th, 2024

On July 9, 2024, the Havana Business Improvement District awarded six graduates at Pickens Technical Center’s Automotive Technician Program. These 6 graduates were hired to work in shops in the Havana Motor Mile.

Pickens 2023-2024 – July 9, 2024
  1. Jehan Sethna – Stevinson Toyota
  2. Carlos Rodriguez – Stevinson Toyota
  3. Dylan Pouliot – Tynan’s VW
  4. Michael Castillo – Tynan’s VW
  5. Mark Bortz – Schomp Ford
  6. Omer Elobied – Schomp Subaru

These students received a Snap-On Tool package including a compact split-lid cart full of auto mechanic tools to use on the job.

We also had students placed at Shortline Buick GMC, Schomp Hyundai, Schomp Mazda, Schomp Ford, LHM JEEP, Tynan’s Nissan, Havana Auto Parts, and Celebration Chevrolet.

The Havana Motor Mile Tool Incentive Program was created to address the severe shortage of auto technicians and encourage newly trained technicians from Pickens to fill job vacancies in the Havana Motor Mile shops.

Automotive technicians are required to have their own tools to use on the job.  Right out of school, it is often difficult for newly graduated auto techs to afford the basic tools required.

Receiving a complete @snapon_official Tool package is a dream come true for a new auto tech.

The Havana Motor Mile/Havana BID contributed $23,000 from our 2024 operating budget to fund this tool incentive program.  Thank you to the board of directors for your continued support of the program! Special thank you board member Donovan Welsh with Havana Auto Parts & South Havana Shops for attending the tool chest ceremony today 💚💙🖤❤️🧡💛

Thank you to automotive instructors, Darcy Niblo, Sam Gangwisch, and Levi Shaw for their dedication to the program and the students of Pickens Tech.

Pickens 2022-2023 – May 31, 2023
  1. Trae Duggan – Red tool box – Schomp Ford
  2. Axel Castaneda- Yellow tool box – Infiniti of Denver
  3. Eduardo Soto Garduno – green tool box – Schomp Subaru
  4. Alfredo Camacho – black tool chest – Infiniti of Denver
  5. Sachiel Mendoza – orange tool chest – TYNAN’s Volkswagen
  6. Amir Chambers – blue tool chest – Schomp Ford

Snap-On Tools worked with us and Pickens to give us a great deal on the tool packages.

If the student awarded the tools stays on the job in the Havana Motor Mile shop for two years, then they get to keep the tool package.  If they leave employment before the two year mark, then the tool package goes back to Pickens to be awarded to a future student employed in a Havana Motor Mile shop as part of this tool incentive program.

This great program was created by the service managers and shop owners in the Havana Motor Mile.
