On Saturday, December 3, 2016, our Secret Santas and Santa’s Helpers hit the street to spread Holiday cheer by distributing gift cards and candy canes to thank people for doing their Holiday shopping On Havana Street. Over 630 gift cards totaling $7,000 were purchased by the Havana Business Improvement District (BID) from its stakeholder businesses along Havana for this event. Havana Auto Parts recruited Santa Paul and Santa Jason for the event. The Havana BID recruited a homeless gentleman nicknamed “Cheese,” who frequents the Havana District, and his sweet American Bulldog named “Freyja” to assist Santa with the candy cane distribution and to earn a few bucks.
This event is one of the many economic development type events that we host throughout the year to help our local businesses. Each year we use our remaining Events Budget money to purchase the gift cards from the stakeholder businesses for this Secret Santa event. Our businesses see an increase in sales as a result of this event. Thank you for Shopping On Havana Street!
