Sales Tax Revenue Continues Strong

September 14th, 2017

Apples to Apples Comparison:  One strong indicator of the success of the Havana Business Improvement District’s programs is the solid sales tax revenue generated by the Havana BID businesses for the City of Aurora.  This sales tax revenue goes into the city’s general fund to pay for essential city programs and services.  The city sales tax rate in Aurora is 3.75%.  In 2009, we worked with the City of Aurora Tax and Revenue Department to develop a report to track the 3.75% city sales tax generated by the 209 real commercial property stakeholders of the Havana Business Improvement District in three categories:  Auto Dealers & Parts, Food & Dining and Total Sales Tax.  The first full year of sales tax reporting using this method was 2010.  We last ran this report on September 9, 2017.   This report generates accurate “apples to apples” comparisons annually 2010 through 2016 as well as the first 7 months of this year–January through July 2017.

We are pleased to report that from 2010 through end of year 2016, we have seen huge percentage increases in all three of these tax categories in the Havana BID:

Auto Dealers & Parts:  Up 83%
Food & Dining:  Up  70%
Total Sales Tax:  Up 54%
