Mariscos El Ray 2 in the Iliff Point Shopping Center, 10293 E Iliff, is finally open and receiving rave reviews! Mark Tunnell, our resident restaurant critic, writes, “Mariscos El Rey 2 is now open in Iliff Pointe where Korea House, Dancing Crab, Shin Sa Dong etc. once were (I remember it being a TGI Fridays when I was very young). It’s the sister restaurant to the original Mariscos El Rey at 8th/Dayton, and specializes in a very large menu of seafood preparations including Mexican-style sushi (which has been popular in parts of northern Mexico for over a decade). Besides the chips and salsa, I tried the shrimp empanada, crab taco, a sushi roll with beef, chicken, shrimp, cream cheese and avocado (served with crab and carrot salads and a roasted blond (güero) pepper), an iced hibiscus beverage – oh, and can’t forget the deep-fried Oreos with vanilla ice cream. Mmmmmmmmmmmm!” They open at 9 a.m. This is a great addition to the over 80 restaurants located “On Havana Street.” You have to try the Mexican Sushi!
